Bioiberica’s Plant Physiology Division organize a visit around the main Spanish agricultural zones hosting the 'Mexican Plant Protection Delegation” of the State of Veracruz
The reason of this visit is the exchange of experiences and tools of biological control against the main fruit flies on citrus. The application of organophosphate insecticide (malathion) in their crops means more problems every day due to residues in the exportation, and in the local market, where the residues policies in fruits are becoming more restrictive.
The visit to Spain, one of the most important countries in mass trapping techniques, has been very interesting for the Mexican Delegation. During the several farm visits, Cera Trap has been confirmed as an innovative and effective system of massive capture for fruit fly. With this system, the trap and the attractant are ready to use without insecticidal in the trap or in the field.
The State of Veracruz, is one of the most important producers of citrus fruits in Mexico with more than 200.000 Ha of sweet orange and other tropical crops like papaya or mango. For this reason, the delegation has been very interested in the techniques of integrated agriculture and the agrarian practices of our country. This approach between the two citrus producers has been an excellent opportunity to learn and compare the techniquesused to fight against the main pests.
Bioiberica’s Plant Physiology wants to thank Departamento de Agricultura, Alimentación y Acción Rural de Cataluña, state institutions (MARM), and the owners of the farms that were visited as well as the different Associations for their collaboration.
