Attraction of Livestock-Relevant Dipterans to Cera Trap®, an Attractant for Fruit Fly Pests (Diptera: Tephritidae)
This study reports and analyzes the capture of livestock-relevant dipteran species in traps baited with Cera Trap®, an attractant originally designed for fruit fly pests (Diptera: Tephritidae). A completely randomized block design was established to evaluate captures across five treatments consisting of traps baited with Cera Trap®. Three species were identified: Stomoxys calcitrans (L.), Musca autumnalis (L.), and Musca domestica (L.). Significant differences were observed in captures obtained with the Multilure trap baited with 250 ml of Cera Trap®, which recorded the highest number of specimens, particularly for S. calcitrans and M. autumnalis. No significant differences were observed in the capture of M. domestica among treatments. Male captures predominated over females in S. calcitrans and M. autumnalis, but not in M. domestica. Although Cera Trap® is primarily used against agricultural pests, further research is recommended to evaluate its potential use in livestock facilities and within One Health strategies.
